Yesterday, we took a tour of the Stadtmuseum in Graz that was, in theory, about Jewish life in the city. I was excited to learn about the vibrant life of Jewish Graz before WWII, to hear of the many contributions Jews had made to the civic life of the city, to hear about the reclaiming and rebuilding of Jewish life in the post-Shoah era.
Austria. Sold apples with her father in the train station as a young girl. I think she was from Linz. That’s all I know, except she got out before Shoah. I’m writing about this too. Because there’s so much I don’t know.…
Very touched by your story and am glad you shared the model of the synagogue. I can only imagine tour patrons are typically more interested in the tragedies, rather than the surviving.
Interesting the idea that terrorism is more about the terrorist than the victim - true.
I also think if the intent was to "wipe out" jewish life all together then only talking about the holocaust and other attrocities does eliminate Jewish life, or at least the knowledge of it. Profoundly sad! and do not apologize for crying! it is a healthy reponse! It was, however, nice of you to send an apology to the guide. Can you imagine having to retell the trauma day after day? :(
