Sarah, I might be wrong but my instinct is to go and be ourselves. I am not interested in cowering under the covers (or in the bathrooms, as so many did last year). The panel you had proposed sounds ideal, and if you wanted to do it as an offsite I would help in any way that could be useful. I think disappearing would be doing anti semites a big favour. Interested in everyone’s thoughts. Xox

You might be braver than I am. Last year broke my heart; I'm afraid this year might break my spirit. But we shall see. October 6th feels like the wrong day for me to make my decision.

I will also say that today is the wrong day to decide. But the AWP stuff is devastating and it ties in with another event that happened this week, or that at least came to full view this week: Ta-Nahisi Coates' new book, which will certainly be glorified in the writing community. Have only read review so far, but it is frightening because of his reach.

I am never good at writing quickly for public consumption--and on this matter, at this time, for all sorts of reasons, I really cannot imagine if/when I'll have something to share. Which makes me especially grateful for this post, Sarah, and for you.

I just came back here to post this! If it helps, here's a shorter link: https://bit.ly/AWP5YearsOn.

I can't believe I initially spelled your name wrong. I was so enraged by how hard you have worked, and how little it has helped, that I forgot to keep Spellcheck in, well, check.

Thank you for this.

I just learned about this post from Erika's post and joined so I could comment. I'm grateful that you posted about this. I'm also amazed/appalled by the utter lack of balance on the AWP panels...and wondering if perhaps there's an opportunity to meet up. Either at the Jewish Writer's caucus (forgetting if that's the term they used) or elsewhere.

Paul, I'm happy to explore possibilities. If there are off-sites, I'd think about participating (I hate trying to navigate LA, but to keep from being silenced, I'd manage).

AWP has been in my rear-view for a while, but now, poof, it is out-of-view.
